Haram Movie Review

The movie Haram didn’t live upto the expectations. This new generation flick is written and directed as well as edited by Vinod Sukumaran. P Sukumar and Saji Samuel jointly produced this experiment. Just as said in the movie; this will leave an experience for them- good or bad!

Balu (Fahad) was a language trainer in a BPO un Bangalore. Isha (Radhika Apte) is one of his colleagues who was dumped by her Kannadiga boyfriend. As a friend Balu try to support her to overcome this emotional turmoil. In due course of time both fall in love and get married.

There are vague hints about each others background though it is not established. Like Balu’s album with revolutionary pics of college days and a Jewish lamp in Isha’s house.

After the marriage the happy couple shift to Kochi and which will take their life to new directions. With more number of Malayalis around them the issues were just brewing. And I think the director was still brewing the story as the movie even come to a stop.

The movie has a good number of cliché characters of malayali urban life. Like an RJ who cant speak proper Malayalam, guys who cant read it, Gangs of Mattanchery etc.

The movie which follow non linear story telling won’t reveal anything special all along the way other than just keep you confused. Its better for our directors not to try the Nolan thing.

Yet the visuals of the film are vivid even though most of the frames give a seen before feel. Music by Thykoodam bridge is a highlight for the movie with whole band appearing in the ‘Theevandi’ song. The lyrics are at times less impressive but the music as well as background score are impressive with some good experiments.

Haram is a movie without suspense or say any other emotions. May be some of the migrants may identify with the story. Music will be the relief in a movie of so called non linear storytelling.
