Kanal movie review

Kanal is a real road thriller starring Mohanlal and Anoop Menon in lead roles. This is second movie in this month showing the life of migrant Malayalees in Gulf and is successful like predecessor Pathemari in giving a glimpse on Gulf life. Kanal is written by S. Suresh Babu and directed by M. Padmakumar.

Movie is set in the backdrop of Gulf recession which affected many Malayalees in recent years. Kuruvila Mathew ( Atul Kulkarni) and Raghu ( Prathap Pothen) were successful businessmen in Gulf and both were affected by the recession and even there families started to fall apart for the same reason. Anantharaman ( Anoop Menon) is a journalist who is a journalist by profession, he also tried his luck in Gulf with his channel ” Pravasi Vision” he also failed due to recession and now don’t share good vibes with his wife for the same reason.

John David (Mohanlal) is an enthusiastic and cheerful guy who is also an animator by profession. John and Anantharaman happen to travel on a same train to Karwar in Karnataka. John who had worked in Gulf for some time recognize Anantharaman quickly. Due to some difficulties on train track the duo take an off road.

Ananthraman share all his stories to John and feel relieved. Slowly the paths of Raghu, Kuruvila and John start to converge under totally unexpected circumstances. Leaving Anantharaman to wonder ” Why am I here?”

Kanal show how complex and selfish human relationships can become. And how desperateness changes human responses.

During the whole movie you will have new suspicions which keep on unfolding in due course of time. Even the relatively short appearance of Honey Rose is powerful in the movie.

Vinod Illampally and Ranjan Abraham present you with classy frames which are well augmented by background scores by Ouseppachan.

Kanal is a Road movie really showing how lives two strangers who met on a train had deeper connections. True to the tagline of the movie ” Every end has an old beginning”
