Rani Padmini Movie Review

Rani Padmini Movie Review

Rani Padmini is another road movie in Malayalam but this time two ladies on focus and hence every woman with a passion to journey will find the movie mind blowing, for others also this one is enjoyable. Rani Padmini is written by Syam Pushkaran, Ravisankar duo and directed by Ashiq Abu.

Rani (Reema Kallingal) is a tomboy who haven’t yet come in terms with the reality that she is female. With a heart filled with adventure and anger towards inequalities Rani is one made for a long trip. Hailing from an urban middle class family Rani embark on a trip to Leh on a completely different ground than Padmini.

Padmini (Manju Warrier) go on her trip to Leh in order to follow her husband who just went from home to Himalayas. On stark contrast to Rani, Padmini is a calm and quite ‘good girl’. She is obedient and respectful to everyone including her mother in law (Sajitha Madathil) who wish to control Padmini ‘s life too. Padmini go out just out of desperation not out of desire.

Yet when Rani and Padmini join together they make a wonderful trip through the Himalayas. They are followed by journalists to gangsters. The movie shows how this how the duo fight odds and continue on the tough mountain trail to achieve what they came for. And bother help and save each other constantly.

With typical female mannerisms of Malayalee women Rani Padmini will remind you almost all ladies whom you know. Or you might even find yourself in it. Whole movie is a bit slow and void of real conflicts, just to say what’s lacking. Songs are good but don’t remain in mind. Background suits the mood of the movie.

Madhu Neelakandan did a great job with camera, he literally captured beauty of Himalayas with camera. Especially visuals on racing cars are worth mentioning, for their stability and feel of racing.

So! a must watch for any girl who is passionate about travelling – this will inspire you a lot.
