Apparently, the story of the film is based on the real life story of a teenage girl who is forced to become a mother. Bhama is essaying the character of a fifteen year old school girl who was forced to marry her sister’ s husband and became a widow later.
Nandhu started off his career playing the hero’s friend in most of his films, but over the years bagged a number of solid characters. In his career spanning 20 years, this will be the first time he is getting to play the lead, Nandhu said.

ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശില്‍ നടന്ന ഒരു യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ സംഭവത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയാണ് ഒറ്റമന്ദാരം എന്ന് പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന സിനിമ ഒരുങ്ങുന്നത്. കുട്ടികള്‍ ഉണ്ടാവാത്ത ചേച്ചിയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി ഗര്‍ഭിണിയായ പതിനഞ്ചുകാരിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പത്രവാര്‍ത്തയില്‍ നിന്നാണ് വിനോദ് കഥയുണ്ടാക്കിയത്. പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയ്ക്ക് സ്‌കൂളില്‍ പഠിക്കേണ്ട പ്രായത്തില്‍ ചേച്ചിയുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ കിടക്ക പങ്കിടുകയും അയാളില്‍ നിന്ന് ഗര്‍ഭം ധരിക്കേണ്ടി വരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അയാളുടെ മരണത്തോടെ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ സങ്കീര്‍ണ്ണമായി.
ചേച്ചിയുടെ വേഷത്തില്‍ സജിതാ മഠത്തിലും ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ വേഷത്തില്‍ നന്ദുവും എത്തുന്നു. മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തകനായ അജയ് മുത്താനയാണ് ഒറ്റമന്ദാരത്തിന് തിരക്കഥ ഒരുക്കുന്നത്.
