Kismath Malayalam Movie Review

Kismath is a 2016 Malayalam romantic drama film written and directed by debutante Shanavas K Bavakkutty. It stars Shane Nigam and Shruty Menon as two star-crossed lovers from different religious backgrounds. It is produced by Shailaja Manikandan under the banner of Pattam Cinema Company, and in association with LJ FIlms and Akbar Travels.The film narrates the real-life story of a Ponnanicouple a 28 year old scheduled castewoman and a 23 year old Muslim man who faced backlash from society for their relationship in 2011. The screenplay was conceived by Bavakutty while serving as the town’s Municipal Councillor.

Kismath is a normal love story like Thattathin Marayathu or Ennu Ninte Moideen, Mainly the theme.

Story of Kismath is based on a real incident, which happened in Ponnani region of Thalassery district in Kerala. The film narrates the of story of a 23-year-old Muslim boy named Irfan and 28-year-old Dalit girl named Anitha, who are in love with each other. Both their families are against their wish and things take a turn when they decide to marry and seek the help of the police.

The movie looks fresh and rightly paced for 102 minutes.The movie was so realistic that you wont see any actors but only the characters throughout the movie. Every character that appears in the movie is portrayed very well the actors and kudos to casting of the movie.film is also tries to be another ‘Annayum Rasoolum’.The good thing of the film is narrative style and bad is nothing new in the film.

Shane Nigam is such a promising youngster to our industry. He can deliver more astonishing performances within his limits. Sruthy Menon’s career best and Vinay Forrt’s best after Premam.While I give full credits to the director for sticking to realistic film making, the dramatic dialogues towards the end could have trimmed. Sushin Shyam’s background score is a cherry on top.Salute to Rajeev Ravi and LJ Films Pvt Ltd for taking up such a strong project.
