Anarkali movie review

Love is as strong as death says the songs of Solomon. Anarkali is another romantic thriller of 2015 in Malayalam which makes real love and patient waiting conquer the hearts of viewers. Prithviraj starer Anarkali is written and directed by Sachy.

Shanthanu (Prithviraj) is a diving instructor in Kavarathy. He reached there in search of Zachariah ( Biju Menon) and a Naval officer Naseeb. Koya ( Surech Krishna) is their local connection. Lakshadweep, which is a small group islands off the coast of Kerala possess unique culture and language. Zachariah is not happy to find out that Shanthanu returns to his life after a decade.

Both of them were comrades in Indian Navy. Shanthanu happens to fall in love with Nadira Imam, daughter of a Naval Officer. The vengeance filled heart of her father cost both Shanthanu and Zachariah their career in Navy. This not only threw them out of the system but also they started losing their own lives. Zachariah was rejected by everyone, whereas Shanthanu continued his search to find Nadira again. Now he is back in the Island just hoping that he will be able to meet her brother Naseeb and win her back.

On the other hand Shanthanu gets used to the life in the Island, where there is only one doctor – Sherin George ( Miya) and for any serious medical requirement one has to be airlifted to Kochi. And that offers the fastest mode of transport out of the Island. Koya’s sister is also a victim of an unfulfilled love story.

Anarkali takes a tight turn when Naseeb gets to know that Shanthanu is on the Island and he evades the grip of Shanthanu to take a trip to Kochi. All that they can do is wait for Naseeb Imam to return with a news about Nadira Imam, who is separated from Shanthanu for long time.

Anarkali also raise the question in the minds of a common viewer why the true love always suffer and why true love of always obstructed by the loved ones themselves. And this movie also put a lot importance to the promises made.

Shot in the picturesque backdrop of Lakshadweep Anarkali is a feast to eyes as well as heart. Songs are hardly impressive but background score is just awesome. Sujith Vaasudevv’s camera and Ranjan Abraham’s editing brings you visuals not common to Malayalam movies, especially the underwater sequences.

Another good romance thriller, even though it will remind you Ennu Ninte Moideen every now and then. And we all know love is as strong as death.
